WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE EXCUSES?
The key to breaking free from your meditation excuses.
Hi %%FIRST_NAME%%,
How have the first few days of your 28 Day Meditation Challenge been?
Today we’re moving on to look at our favourite meditation excuses…
We’ve all got them – the reasons why we can’t meditate – our meditation excuses:
- I don’t have time
- I’m too tired
- there is too much to do
- it doesn’t work for me
- it’s boring…
We may have spent years, believing in them… But…
What if we could see meditation as a solution, instead of a ‘chore’ to fit in?
Meditation can help us to enjoy life more, feel less stressed and get more done, rather than being an obligation that takes up valuable time.
It’s said that meditation and prayer for example are two sides of the same coin. There’s a lovely story about Archbishop Desmond Tutu on finding time to meditate or pray:
Archbishop Desmond Tutu was asked by a journalist how long he prays each day. He is busy jetting around the world, and no doubt the journalist was trying to catch him out with this question. But his answer was: “I am so busy, if I want to get everything done I cannot pray for less than two hours a day!”
I remember reading that article; it stopped me in my tracks. I’m guessing that, although I often feel really busy, someone like Desmond Tutu might just be a bit busier than me. And he says he can’t get it all done without meditative prayer space. It was time to review my excuses!
Day 3 of your 28 Day Meditation Challenge is a really good time to look at your excuses.
- What are your excuses for not meditating?
- What have they been in the past?
- What are they today?
- What are you going to do about them?
- And when?!
Not sure what your excuses are? Here’s a simple question to help you uncover them:
“I can’t meditate today, because…”
The answer to that question holds the secret to discovering – and then being able to sort out – your meditation excuses.
Perhaps you’d like to share some of your favourites and maybe get some advice on handling them over at the forum? There’s a special discussion thread for our favourite meditation excuses:
If you find your excuses are still coming up for you over the 28 days, it’s worth going back to the ‘Getting Started’ section and reviewing the Secret To Keeping Yourself Motivated’ exercise. It’s on page 14 of your Getting Started pdf.
Often, when we remember why we want to do something, it helps our excuses effortlessly disappear. In fact, it’s such a magic formula for life in general, that I’ll say that again:
When we are truly convinced about why we want to do something, our excuses for not doing it can effortlessly disappear.
Over the 28 days, these messages will be covering many of our common excuses, to help you find your own solutions.
Sometimes the best solution is, as the sportswear manufacturer said:
“Just do it!”
It’s easy to spend more time complaining to ourselves about our excuse than the 10 minutes that your meditation would have taken…
If we know why we want to do something, then excuses like “I don’t feel like it,” or “I’m not in the mood,” tend to melt away. And we feel better afterwards!
Those ten minutes can have a positive impact on the whole of your day. So I really hope you enjoy today’s meditation.

Tomorrow we’ll be moving on to how on earth you can find time to meditate.
Day 3 Affirmation
