Sometimes it’s really easy to tell whether a choice is the right next step for us – but sometimes it’s not. Here’s one of my favourite techniques to help you figure out whether How To Meditate (And Change Your Life) is the right next step for you – and to effectively ‘try it on for size for the next few decades’, to feel how it might help you. I know that sounds weird – but you’ll understand what I mean when you have tried out this exercise:
How To Tell Whether Your Heart Wants You To Join In
- Take a moment to pause and gently close your eyes.
- Take a deep breath in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth with an ‘ahhh’ sound – releasing any tension and stress as you do it, coming back to this moment. Do this 3 times.
- Now I invite you to imagine it’s your eightieth birthday – or a birthday at least ten years ahead. Allow yourself to settle in the shoes of that ‘future you’.
- Now imagine that you chose, today, to join in with How To Meditate (And Change Your Life).
Looking back at that choice, see it with the eyes of that eighty year old future you. See it with that future you’s heart and life experience. - Does that old choice or action make any difference to the eighty year old you? Did it change the course of your life? If yes, was it in a way that you would want?
- What advice would the eighty year old you give the younger you, in this situation?
- Coming back to the here and now, what have you discovered?
